Parker Core Knowledge – Top Preschool in Parker

April 9th, 2012 | Written by | Buyers, Town of Parker

It has been well established that early childhood is a crucial time for
children’s cognitive development. Less understood is that very young children
are ready-and excited-to develop skill and understanding in language, literacy,
mathematics, and science. Indeed, pre-kindergarten learning experiences in these
domains can help to build the skills, knowledge, and attitudes that prepare young
children for academic success” (The Albert Shanker Institute, 2009). Parker Core
Knowledge (PCK)
Preschool & Jr. Kindergarten is an early childhood program
that believes that children are ready to learn right where they are. In the fall of
2011, we opened our doors to three, four and five year olds whose parents are
seeking a strong preschool program that will prepare their child for early success
in elementary school. Our mission is clearly defined: To build an early foundation
of knowledge and skills by providing stimulating opportunities for children to grow
and learn in a safe, caring preschool environment. Through the PCK Preschool
and Jr. Kindergarten programs, students are getting a jump-start on their Core
Knowledge education!

The Core Knowledge Preschool Sequence covers nine different domains:

Movement & Coordination, Autonomy & Social Skills, Work Habits, Language &
Literacy Development, Mathematics, Orientation in Time & Space, Science, Music,
and Visual Arts. We believe that knowledge builds on knowledge and we strive to
make as many cross-curricular connections as possible throughout the day. “Rather
than a set of isolated skills, teachers should integrate literacy instruction into all
subject areas in the pre-k classroom, including math, science, social studies and the
arts (Neuman, S.B., Roskos, K., Wright, T.S., and Lenhart, L. Nurturing Knowledge:
Building a Foundation for School Success by Linking Early Literacy to Math, Science,
Art and Social Studies. New York: Scholastic, 2007). Students learn during gathering
time, outside play, and centers, small group and whole group instruction.

At Parker Core Knowledge, all grades learn math one year ahead.

Our junior kindergarteners (4 year olds) learn Kindergarten Math through Saxon
Math. “When teachers purposefully structure opportunities for mathematics
experiences, children learn new concepts and skills and also develop core thought
processes that are needed for mathematics, including problem-solving, reasoning,
representing, communicating and connecting math ideas (National Association
for the Education of Young Children/National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Early Childhood Mathematics: Promising Good Beginnings. Washington, D.C.: national
Association for the Education of Young Children, 2002). Parents are amazed at the
math concepts their children are learning, comprehending and are competent in as
they cover Saxon Kindergarten Math.

We are always accepting registrations for current and future classes.
