Parker Hail Storm Roof Repair Tips

June 13th, 2012 | Written by | Buyers, Market Reports for Parker Colorado, Sellers

It’s been less than a week since the big Parker hail storm and I’ve already noticed a lot of roof inspections and repairs going on from the two hail storms last week. I’ve heard horror stories of roofs, siding, windows, window screens, window frames, plants and cars being destroyed.

home having the roof replaced.

From what I can tell the worst damage was done on the East side of Parker Road. Homes and neighborhoods on the West side fared much better and most of the reports from the West side were of pea sized hail versus the golf ball sized hail on the East side of Parker Road.

Since I went throught this personally in 2009 when he had the last large hail storm here in Parker I thought I would share some of my lessons learned with you.

Here is a new law to help protect Colorado consumers when dealing with roofers. Colorado Senate Bill 38 Know your Rights in Colorado.

Do this:

  1. Call your insurance company to start the claim process if you believe the damage is bad enough to warrant a claim.
  2. Your insurance company will send out an adjuster to inspect the roof and other damage. Try to pre-inspect your home and possessions thoroughly before the adjuster arrives so you can point out all the damage. In my case the adjuster actually pointed out quite a lot of damage that I did not see.
  3. You insurance company can provide you with [usually several] names of reputable companies that they know and trust to look at the roof.
  4. If you want a roofer to give you an opinion prior to calling the insurance company go to the BBB website and look for local companies or ask for referrals from neighbors or friends.
  5. Get estimates. Everything is cheaper when you get more than 2 estimates. I’ve seen 3 different estimates from 3 different roofers that can be many thousands of dollars apart.

Do not to this:

  1. Do not use a company that drives up and knocks on your door to say they will help you with the insurance claim and get your roof replaced unless of course they are a TRUE local company that you know of personally.
  2. Never sign anything with any of the roofers before you talk to your insurance company.

Here is an old article I wrote back when we replaced our roof.
